Betfred League One Preview | Round 10

Betfred League One Preview | Round 10

Four Betfred League One games are taking place this weekend, with sides looking to make their push towards the play-offs. Here is a rundown of all the matches taking place.

The action gets underway at 2PM in Birmingham, as Midlands Hurricanes welcome Whitehaven to the Alexander Stadium.

The Canes have made a great start to 2025 with five wins and a draw in their opening seven matches, which sees them sit third in Betfred League One. Their sole defeat came to league leaders, North Wales Crusaders.

Sunday’s meeting will be the second of the season, with Midlands coming out on top by a score of 52-24 when the sides met in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup in February.

Whitehaven recorded three wins in their first four matches this season, however, since then they have won just one of four contests which was in their last outing against Goole Vikings. Sitting in fifth place, a win for Whitehaven could see them overtake the Hurricanes on points difference.

Two sides at near opposite ends of the table meet at Cougar Park, as Keighley Cougars face top spot North Wales Crusaders.

The Cougars are yet to claim a point, suffering seven straight defeats in the league this season. However, Keighley boast a good recent record over the Crusaders winning the last eight meetings. Could this be the win that kick starts their season?

Meanwhile on the flip side, North Wales have drastically improved from their showing in 2024. Last season they finished 7th with eight wins, however, from just seven matches this season they have six wins to their name already.

This season, Ollie Brookes and Patrick Ah Van have both posed an attacking threat. Both players have scored six tries apiece which puts them as the joint third top scorer in the division.

Crusaders last defeated the Cougars away from home over a decade ago, with 30-18 success coming in August 2014.

Rochdale Hornets will be looking to get back to winning ways, after defeat to Midlands saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. The Hornets are seventh in the table heading into the contest on Sunday.

Luke Forber has been a prolific try scorer, with Forber scoring a brace in his last three appearance against Newcastle Thunder. The Hornets player has had a great year scoring four tries against Goole which saw him move to the top of the scoring charts in the league with nine tries scored.

Thunder will need a big effort to get their first win of the season. In seven matches, Thunder have scored 40 points and conceded 394 points. Their last victory over Rochdale came back in 2015.

The final match of the weekend will see a first meeting between Workington Town and the newly formed, Goole Vikings.

Workington Town have picked up 11 out of a possible 14 points this season including a 10-8 success in Round 6 against Cumbrian rivals, Whitehaven.

Goole have won two Betfred League One matches in their debut season. Scott Taylor’s side recorded consecutive wins in Round 6 and 7 on the road against Keighley and Newcastle
